After Losing A Job, This Person Gained A New Perspective On The Beauty Of Life

"My life was so much bigger than that job."

Losing a job, no matter what the circumstance, is usually stressful and difficult. But in a recent post on Humans of New York (HONY), one person shared how losing a job after six years actually opened them up to noticing the beauty in life they'd previously taken for granted. Their optimistic perspective is one we should all hear.

"I lost my job last week," the post begins. "It was the first job I've ever lost. It's hard not to take it personally when someone tells you that you're not needed."

The anonymous storyteller adds that they were the only one on a ten-person team to lose the job.

"So my mind has been running through all the possible things I could have done wrong. The first few days were the hardest. I spent a lot of time crying."

But just when you think the post is surely a negative one, it turns around, and the person breaks down all the reasons why they refuse to let this unfortunate circumstance bring them down.

"But my birthday was a few days ago, and my friends took me out for a taco night. And it woke me up. I started laughing. I couldn't even remember why I'd felt so sad. My life was so much bigger than that job. I'm healthy, I live in a wonderful city, and I have a great group of friends. I just lost a small piece of the pie."

The post has been flooded with positive comments on HONY, from people who (presumably) don't even know this person, but want to encourage them to stay hopeful. There were also those who needed to hear their message, too.

"You are much bigger than any job," one person comments.

"I needed this so much right now. Always brighter days ahead," another adds.
