Hillary Clinton's New Book Is Already A Bestseller, And It Isn't Even Out Yet

"Now I’m letting my guard down."

Hillary Clinton is out of the woods. After launching a new political action group earlier this year, the former Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate just announced the title of her new book about the election — What Happened.

"In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I've often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I'm letting my guard down," Clinton writes in the book's introduction.

The Associated Press reports that, according to the book's publisher Simon & Schuster, What Happened will chronicle Clinton's experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party, as well as the sexism she experienced. It's also being described as a "cautionary tale" about Russian interference in the election.

"In these pages," the publisher shares, "she describes what it was like to run against Donald Trump, the mistakes she made, how she has coped with a shocking and devastating loss, and how she found the strength to pick herself back up afterwards."

"Writing 'What Happened' was hard, so is what we see every day," Clinton wrote on Twitter after the title was announced. "As we move forward & fight back, I hope this helps."

The book is set to be released September 12, 2017.

Plenty of readers are clearly eager to see what Clinton has to say, as shown by the number of pre-orders on Amazon. The AP reports that, within hours, the title had jumped from No. 3,350 to No. 17. It wasn't much longer before it reached No. 1.

Some Twitter users made sure to point out how the book's immediate success contradicted recent requests that the former candidate "stop talking about 2016" or "go quietly into the night" — as some headlines have put it.

What Happened isn't the only political book we have to look forward to in the coming months. Barack and Michelle Obama are both working on new books of their own, and books featuring photos of their time in the White House will also be released later this year.
