OH HAIL NO: Insane Weather Cell Turns SoCal Beach Into Winter Wonderland

When dark clouds rolled in over Huntington Beach yesterday, it looked like it might just be a storm.

The normally sunny sands of the Southern California beach was covering with up to a half inch of hail, reported officials from the U.S. National Weather Service.

Despite the sudden shock of pea-sized hail, KTLA reported that some surfers were still making the best of it, using skimboards as sleds on nearby hills.

The hail melted by noon, but a winter weather advisory remained in effect until 7 a.m. the following day.

In any case, it was a welcome change of scenery in Southern California.

The next time you go to the beach you might want to bring an umbrella... And a parka.
