A young concertgoer in Florida got the ultimate fan encounter last week when Gwen Stefani invited him on stage with her. But there was an important message behind the gesture that countless people will be able to relate to.
During a show in West Palm Beach, Gwen spotted a sign in the crowd and grabbed it. She read the message out loud into the microphone: "My son was bullied from first to fifth grade. He would come home every day upset, but he'd go to his room, listen to your music, and smile."
Gwen wasted no time welcoming the boy on stage with her, shouting, "Get up here right now!"
The crowd cheered as Gwen wrapped her arms around the emotional fan, whose name is Brandon Burford.
"You are so awesome," she appears to tell the boy, who was crying with joy. Gwen's actions send a welcome message of love and acceptance to those who have had similar experiences.
Gwen shared video of the moment on social media, adding a brief message about what the encounter meant for her:
About 3 years ago when things were hard in my life I prayed to God everyday that I could get a chance to use my gift that God gave me and make a difference in some way in this world - last night this little guy was the answer to my prayers #zerotoleranceforbullies #onelove #thisiswhatthetruthfeelslike Gx
The singer even shared a backstage selfie with Brandon.
Brandon told local news that Gwen thanked him for listening to her music and added her autograph to the sign his mom wrote.
His mom Maria, who had promised to get him tickets to the front row of one of Gwen's shows, said of the singer, "She means a lot, and I wanted her to know that. From one mother to another."
