Tuesday night marked the start of the semifinals of America's Got Talent, which meant it was time for another original song by standout contestant Grace VanderWaal.
The 12-year-old and her ukulele have been charming the judges and audience for months now, both on and off the show. Her performances are a showcase not only of her incredible talent, but also her improving confidence.
Before her audition, most of Grace's friends didn't know she sang. The first original song she performed was even titled "I Don't Know My Name." This week, Grace acknowledged that her experience on the show has made her more secure in her talent.
"I was always afraid that I wasn't a good singer," she said. "I never imagined I could win, but every single day I want it more and more badly."
She added, "My confidence is growing and I feel like I can do it."
Grace described her latest original song, "Light the Sky," as being about "letting yourself shine." And shine is what definitely what she did on that stage Tuesday night. All four judges gave her a standing ovation, with Simon Cowell praising her originality.
"I think you sing for a new generation," he told her.
