Geode Wedding Cake Trend Brings The Beauty Of Earth's Jewels To Baking

#8 Looks heavenly.

If you think you know what a wedding cake looks like, thing again.

Award-winning luxury cake designer Rachel Teufel is challenging the conventions of wedding cake designs with her incredible techniques that can only be described as art. The Intricate Icing baker combines the earthly beauty found in dazzling amethyst crystal formations and the pristine elegance of the traditional white wedding cake.

Teufel's cake, which utilized rock candy sugar crystals and painstaking gold-leafing to mimic the crystalline growth sometimes found in hollow volcanic and sedimentary rock, created an amazing illusion of purple and violet amethyst crystals hidden deep within the triple-tiered cake's center, contrasting with layers of smooth, creamy fondant and buttercream.

Since then, others have followed in Teufel's artistic footsteps with variations on the Earth-meets-cake theme.

Here are a few of our favorites, beautifully photographed and posted to Instagram, that celebrate weddings and more by combining the beauty of nature with the imaginative art of baking.
