As Fort Walton Beach Police Department Officer Marcus Montgomery finished up talking to a witness during a call for service at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), he noticed a tiny puppy who needed some help being carried in by an employee.
"The supervisor explained to me that he was left all alone in a box behind their building overnight," Montgomery told Good Morning America. "During that time, we were achieving 30 and below weather, so just thinking about him out there all alone, probably so confused, broke my heart. I've heard him whine and cry, and just imagining him in that box by himself tugged at my heart terribly."
Montgomery, who had already adopted another dog named Vader from the shelter, felt his resolve weakening immediately when he caught sight of the pup. "As soon as I saw him, I said, 'Don't bring him in here or else I will take him home right now,' " he admitted.
According to Good Morning America, Montgomery planned to foster the puppy — who, in keeping with the Star Wars theme, he named Kylo — for a few weeks until he could the dog find a permanent home.
That was in January.
Apparently, Kylo had other plans.
As you can see, the two are still together.
