When Florida resident Kilee Manulak had her wedding canceled days before the event, she was beside herself. Her ex had ended the two-year engagement with a text message.
While friends and family called the guests to cancel, Manulak took time to handle the ordeal. After a few emotional days, the former bride-to-be and her bridesmaids decided to wear their dresses, except for a different occasion: the Color Fun Fest in Tampa, where participants get covered in colored powder during the 5K.
She had seen an ad for the event and noticed everyone had worn white. That's when the idea hit her.
"I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I should do this in my dress!' " she told ABC.
So Manulak wore her white dress alongside her best friends in their bridesmaids dresses to the Color Fun Fest, and covered themselves in the color. They also walked the track together and partied on the event stage.
"It was actually very liberating," she told WFLA. "I don't want a pity party. I just want to have fun with it."
She told the station she hopes that her story will give others strength.
Getting a little messy isn't a bad idea, either.
