This Couple Made History By Being One Of The First To Have A Same-Sex Muslim Wedding In The U.K.

The couple have been together for two years.

This year, there were so many highlights from Pride Month 2017 worth noting, including Philadelphia launching a more inclusive Pride flag, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau celebrating LGBTQ Pride at the Toronto parade. The month also ended on a high note when German Parliament moved to legalize same-sex marriage

Another big LGBTQ milestone occurred in June when Jahed Choudhury, 24, married his partner, Sean Rogan, 19, making Choudhury one of the first Muslim men to have a same-sex Muslim wedding ceremony in the United Kingdom.

The wedding took place on June 22, 2017 at the Walsall Register Office with the two wearing traditional Bangladeshi attire. And the beautiful event is making headlines this month after a video of their ceremony was posted online on July 11.

Choudhury, who was raised in a traditional Bangladeshi Muslim family, met Rogan in 2015 while crying on a beach in Darlaston, U.K.., He explained to the BBC that the event came after many years of being bullied and ostracized in the Muslim community for his orientation. The difficult circumstances caused him mental health issues, and after attempting suicide by overdoes, he underwent treatment in a hospital.

The two connected after Rogan expressed concern for Choudhury, and their relationship blossomed from there. Choudhury described Rogan as his "guardian angel" and explains that he has helped him become more accepting of his sexuality and his faith.

The couple, who have been together for two years, eventually moved in together before tying the knot.

While Choudhury's relationship has helped him become more accepting of his faith and sexuality, he also hopes that he and Rogan's story will help others in similar situations. Choudhury — who says he's known he's gay since the age of six — told Express and Star, "We're going to show the whole world that you can be gay and Muslim."
