Here's How The Joker Has Evolved From 1966 Until Now

"His iconic line 'Why so serious?' will forever live on in cinematic lore."

Is there any villain more popular than The Joker? He's been terrorizing Gotham for more than seven decades, yet we're still not over his antics and crazy eyes.

Because this fictional bad guy is such a notorious piece of cinematic and small screen history, YouTube channel Screen Rant dedicated an entire video to his evolution on film from 1966 until now.

"As a result of his popularity, there have been countless adaptations of the character across various media platforms. As well as appearing in comic books and graphic novels, The Joker has appeared on television, in movies, in video games, and on all manner of merchandise and paraphernalia," Ryan George, the narrator of the video, said.

Yet, somehow, each depiction of the supervillain is vastly different than the last. The fresh takes on The Joker are what keep people coming back for more.

Because the TV and movie depictions of The Joker are the most popular, Screen Rant decided to focus on them in their video, pointing out how each iteration differs from the one before. Beginning with Cesar Romero's character in the 1966 Batman TV series, to Heath Ledger's 2008 The Dark Knight character, to present day Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, we truly see the many different faces of The Joker.
