We were already excited to see Disney's upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast film once we read how actress Emma Watson had helped give her character Belle a feminist update. Now that we've heard the first clip of her singing, March can't come soon enough.
Fans got their first sneak peek of Watson's rendition of "Something There" last week in a leaked recording of a Hasbro doll, but on Friday, the movie's Facebook page shared the official version. The 30-second clip is, like Belle sings about the Beast, "new and a bit alarming" if you're used to the animated version of the song, which was sung in 1991 by Paige O'Hara. But it doesn't take long to realize that Watson is a natural.
"I was really unsure about her being Belle because I've never heard her sing," one Facebook commenter admitted. "I take it all back. Chills all over the place!"
It's Watson's first time singing on screen, which she admitted last year she was nervous about. "I sing, so that's really unexpected," she reportedly told Total Film. "I've never had to do that for a film role before, and I think people will be interested to see me do something very different like that."
Based on this clip, we definitely are. It might just be our favorite take on the movie's music since this adorable one last month.
