Elodie Yung Cast As New Elektra For Netflix's "Daredevil"

She picks up the role Jennifer Garner played a decade ago.

Elektra has had a pretty tough go of things in the Marvel Universe. Both in the comics and the 2003 Daredevil film, she — spoiler alert — gets murdered, although she's "revived" for the 2005 Elektra spin-off and death is kind of a relative idea in comics anyway. Now that Elodie Yung has been cast as Elektra in the Marvel TV series version of Daredevil, will she meet the same fate in season 2?

In the aforementioned 2003 Daredevil and 2005 Elektra, the character is portrayed by Jennifer Garner, whose talent wasn't enough to mask other problems within both films. They respectively earned 45 and 10 percent ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, as critics seemed to think there were much better comic books depicted onscreen, such as the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man movies (which, now that we're onto our second Spider-Man actor since then, feel strangely ancient).

Marvel has revived the Daredevil story quite well with its new Netflix series, though — it's at 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid basis for Marvel's continued plan to take over entertainment with its intertwining superhero stories in both film and TV. With Yung in as Elektra, the character takes on a different look than Garner gave her — the obvious physical difference coming from the fact that Garner was born to American parents in Houston while Yung has a Cambodian father and French mother.

With Jon Bernthal already cast as the Punisher for the second season, Daredevil looks primed to build on its strong first season. Yung already played the ninja Jinx in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, so she can jump and slice and dice just like any Elektra should.
