Ellen DeGeneres ran into a very special guest on her show this week. While taking out the garbage, she sparked up an important conversation with none other than Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street. The pair talked about a subject that's close to Ellen's heart — kindness.
"I'm glad you're here, because I heard that on Sesame Street, everyone's now trying to learn about kindness this year," Ellen points out. The goal was announced as a New Year's Resolution earlier this month by Elmo and Cookie Monster, and it's a good one for all of us to adopt after a divisive 2016.
Of course, Oscar doesn't want anything to do with this kindness business, but Ellen thinks she can teach him. And if anyone can teach Oscar the Grouch about kindness, it's Ellen DeGeneres. After all, her very catchphrase, which she repeats at the end of every show, is "Be kind to one another."
Ellen gives Oscar various situations and asks what the kindest response would be, from helping an old lady cross the street to telling someone they have food in their teeth. Oscar doesn't quite know the correct answers yet, but he'll get there eventually. And in the meantime, we can all learn a little something about being nicer to each other.
