Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared on The Tonight Show only to be greeted with an unusual request from host Jimmy Fallon that emphasized Trump's recently revamped kinder and gentler public persona.
"I just wanted to know if there's something we can do that's not presidential really ... something that we can do now that we're just both civilians," Fallon asked Trump before finally cutting to the chase and asking, "Can I mess your hair up?"
Trump looked genuinely baffled, but he seemed to quickly adapt before assenting.
As far as we know, this is the first time a presidential candidate has had his or her hair willingly messed up on television.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that, earlier in the segment, Fallon asked Trump about his tendency to pursue controversy with shocking statements, to which he replied, "I'm trying not to anymore."
Indeed, his usually gruff demeanor seemed warm and pleasant in his interaction with Fallon, even after his famous hair — which Business Insider recently speculated is "fake" — was given a good tussle.
Besides Trump's easy-going affect, what was surprising was just how long his hair actually is. It seems to be cut in the classic preppy tapered-sides, long-on-top style, something not immediately obvious in photos.

It is unknown at this time whether or not Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will be allowing Fallon to mess up her hair, nor is it clear whether or not partisan hair-tussling will become part of future presidential campaigns.
