While the big meme debate of 2015 surrounded the color of the dress (let's just say it's white and gold), there is a new meme that is stirring an entirely different debate as 2016 approaches. And this meme is not about color, but about how a dog should wear pants.
Here is the meme everyone is talking about:
The entire Internet is divided over whether a dog should use two or four legs to wear their fictional pants.
Instead of going into the philosophical debate, let's discover the origins of the image.
Before becoming a viral image on Reddit, Twitter and Imgur, Utopian Raspberry first posted the image on their Facebook page on Monday. According to the Washington Post, a 19-year-old Belgian artist named Norbert K designed the drawing with the intent of having people express their opinions on the issue. However, he had no expectations of its eventual popularity.
"I created it last night at about 2 or 3 am (it's 4:30 pm now my time)," Norbert wrote to Maxim. "I saw some dogs wearing pants, and I thought about how they don't really have arms so their pants should technically go on every leg. I just tried both versions."
The image sparked a debate over whether a dog should wear two-legged or four-legged pants. Numerous factors were interjected in the debate, including dogs designing pants, the fact that dogs would never wear pants on their arms and how they would keep the pants up.
Over 25,000 people on Twitter voted on the issue, and the result is pretty consistent:
