Sissy Franck walked 15 blocks by herself, in the middle of the night, to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA where her mother was being treated for uterine cancer. She had never been to the hospital before, but somehow she knew the way. It was 1:30am and she hadn't told anyone where she was going. Naturally, when her family realized she was missing, they were worried sick.
Once she finally got to the hospital, she just needed some help with the elevator buttons — probably because she's a dog and couldn't reach them.
When the hospital security guards found the miniature Schnauzer, it all became clear to her owner, Dale Franck: Sissy just wanted to pay his wife, Nancy, a visit. After all, the rest of the family had been able to visit her regularly. Maybe this dog just had a bad case of FOMO? Or maybe she sensed that since Nancy had been cooped up in the hospital for weeks, her spirits could use a little lift.
Of course there are still plenty of unclear details about Sissy's adventure. For instance, how did she find her way to the right building? How did she find the right door? How did she know Nancy would even be there?
"She wanted to go see her mom," Dale said with a chuckle. "She was on a mission but she couldn't find the right elevator to take.
