Two Transgender Models Are The Stars Of Diesel's Latest Campaign, And It's All Kinds Of Fabulous

"It's so important right now that we continue to strive and work hard to break through that glass ceiling."

Fashion brand Diesel has been known for pushing the envelope when it comes to showcasing diverse models, and expanding our notion of what mainstream beauty looks like. Past Diesel campaigns have featured such people as Winnie Harlow, a model with vitiligo who starred in the Spring 2016 campaign, and Jillian Mercado, a model with muscular dystrophy who was featured in a Diesel Jeans ad in 2014.

Now Diesel has cast two transgender models for its latest campaign: Benjamin Melzer and Loiza Lamers.

The campaign is a collaboration with German clothing brand About You, and the resulting photos are stunning.

You might recognize Lamers and Melzer because both models have already had some major accomplishments in the industry. Melzer was the first transgender model to appear on the cover of Men's Health Germany, while Lamers was the first transgender model to win Holland's Next Top Model.

According to Mic, the two models were actually already working on a concept shoot to raise awareness about transgender models when Diesel got in touch with them.

Melzer hopes that the Diesel x About You campaign will create more opportunities for transgender models. He said, "The transgender community has been getting a lot of attention the past few years which is a good thing, but it's so important right now that we continue to strive and work hard to break through that glass ceiling so transgender men and women are not seen as a fad or hype. We are real people with real professions and should be allowed the same opportunities as everyone else."
