Diesel's Cool New Campaign Hopes To Inspire You To 'Go With The Flaw'

"Go with the 'oops.' Go with no doubts. Go if it doesn’t look as good as it sounds."

You've heard it time and time again. Embrace your flaws. Celebrate your imperfections. Revel in what makes you unique. But easier said than done, right? The unrealistic standards of beauty ingrained in us by society and scrolling through perfectly curated social media feeds definitely isn't helping. 

But Diesel may have just created something that might. In its new ad campaign "Go With the Flaw," the clothing company gives an exciting look at challenging conformity head on. The edgy ad features a young filmmaker splicing together scenes of people who are beautifully confident in their own skin despite having what some may consider to be "flaws." 



In messy rooms, on incomplete roads, and next to beat-up cars, we see people moving forward, flaunting what they've got instead of trying to hide parts of themselves. One stunning woman has a unibrow. Another has freckles and faded tattoos. Another has metal braces on her teeth. As two beautiful women face off in a game of pool, we see one is cross-eyed while the other has prominent ears. The handsome men in the ad have imperfections of their own, including scars, skin flaws, and spasmodic movement. A few are, what some might consider, "too skinny." But each and every one of them completely owns these features that make them unique. 

French singer Edith Piaf's song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" ("No, I Regret Nothing") provides the perfect anthem to the two-minute ad. 

"I was 15 years old when I made my first pair of jeans by hand. Of course, they weren't perfect. But that made them special — and unique, like everything we have done so far," says Diesel founder Renzo Rosso. "I have always been more interested in imperfection because it stands out from the crowd."

Being unique is so much more exciting than fitting in. "Diesel has made flawed denim a thing. It has always tackled mistakes and challenges head on and succeeded in focusing on what it has that others do not, all the while poking the world's nonsense with a stick. That is what we continue to do in 'Go With The Flaw.' It is a reminder that our flaws help us stand out in a world that increasingly acts the same. Embracing our physical and character flaws, or the daily mishaps, or the awkward situations we get ourselves into is where the real fun and 'successful living' comes from," Bruno Bertelli, global chief creative officer, Publicis Worldwide, and CEO of Publicis Italy, said, referring to the Diesel's long-running tagline. 

Diesel hopes the ad will inspire people to go out and rise above what many perceive as "flaws." 

"Go with no plan. Go with not sure. Go with what makes you feel insecure. Go with the snooze. Go with your hair. Go with that face that needs no repair. Go with mistakes. Go with remakes. Go without knowing if you have what it takes," Diesel captioned the video on YouTube. "Go with the 'oops.' Go with no doubts. Go if it doesn't look as good as it sounds. Go with the hunch. Go with 'oh fuck.' Go like you'll never run out of luck. Go with the swipe. Go with the fling. Go without wanting to put on a ring. But go out in the open. And go with pride. Grab a front seat and enjoy the ride."
