Rapper Desiigner recently sat down with Rob Markman and Genius.
During the interview, he spoke about a number of topics, such as his early life, how he created his hit record "Panda," getting signed to Kanye Wests' G.O.O.D. Music label, growing up in Brooklyn, and more.
One of the important topics he spoke about was how he was shot when he was 14 years old. This was a pivotal point in his life because he immediately decided to get out of the streets and into the studio after the experience.
He told Markman, "I was a bad kid — I was a hardhead, I was in the streets doing dumb shit, I got hit [by a bullet] in my hip ... it wasn't serious, I was in the hospital 10 minutes, 30 minutes — but it was just that moment that really said, 'Yo, mind your business.' "
When he got out of the hospital, he had an epiphany and said, "When that happened to me, I knew I wasn't supposed to be there. I always had a voice in my head that said don't do the bad."
