Denny's 'Angel' Buys Dinner For Every Family In A Diner, Then Leaves $1,500 Tip On $21 Check

“Many years of fighting my demons, I finally found the light."

A Utah woman working at Denny's took to Love What Matters' Facebook page to tell the world about being touched by one man's incredible act of kindness.

According to the post, a man walked into the Denny's where she was working and asked to be seated for a waitress who is a single mother. He was seated according to his request and quietly remained at the restaurant for two hours.

The unidentified woman tells the story.

"You sat there for 2 hours just watching people. 7 families came in and ate while you were there and you paid every one of their bills, over $1,000 you paid for people you didn't even know."

"I asked, 'Why did you do that?' You simply said, ‘Family is everything, I’ve lost all mine.’ "

Fox News discovered the identity of the man.

The Denny's 'angel' was identified by Fox 5 DC as Briggs VanNess. In an interview with Fox, VanNess talked a little about his past and his motivation for helping a single mom.

"I grew up with a single mother of six — we were poor and homeless a lot. I'd spend many nights at my mother's friends' houses, my mother was dying from cancer, but somehow managed to survive," VanNess told Fox 5 DC. "But I watched and suffered for years as I watched her work her hands to the bone to give us a good life. She raised us to be kind and help others. Many years down the road I was facing prison and getting in trouble, and it ended up causing me to lose my family because I was a really terrible person."

After struggling through his hardships and overcoming his personal demons, VanNess is now living to make a difference in a way that would make his mother proud.

"Many years of fighting my demons, I finally found the light," he said in an interview with Fox 5 DC. "Now, I've been helping others as I was raised to do. I spent many years becoming a better person. And now it's time to pay it back, I'm a successful business owner and I help as many as I feel that need it."

The unidentified Denny's employee summed up the impact of VanNess' act of kindness.

"Crystal told me she prayed the night before for a miracle and God sent you. You left before any of us could say thank you, I hope you read this because you're truly an amazing person and you stole the hearts of every one of us here. Thank you."

Thank you, Mr. VanNess.
