Demi Lovato performed at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City's Central Park on Saturday. The event, which is in its fifth year, celebrates activism and strives to end extreme poverty around the world. Attendees earn their tickets by taking actions such as signing petitions and contacting politicians.
While on stage, Lovato took a moment to recognize those who have devoted their efforts to one important issue in particular. "Thank you, global citizens, especially all of you who are working towards the global goal of gender equality, and standing up for women and girls everywhere," she said to the crowd.
She went on to perform Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," describing it as a song that has been "lifting up women everywhere for years, even since before I was born." She dedicated the performance "to women and girls all around the world."
Lovato's performance of the classic was just as strong as we've come to expect from her. As we saw when she performed Adele's "When We Were Young" earlier this month, no cover is too big for her to tackle. She also performed her own hits "Confident" and "Cool for the Summer."
