Poet Rupi Kaur was born to Indian parents. As an ode to her parents in light of Mother's Day last month, Kaur created a poem that illustrates her parents' strength, their adversities living in America and the beauty of their culture.
She writes on Youtube:
"as a gift to my ma on mothers day, i give the world 'broken english'. a piece of my heart. a piece of my mother and i. a piece for every immigrant who struggles to find home..."
Titled, "Broken English," Kaur drives home the meaning of the poem by making points like, "...my mother raised four children without being able to construct a perfect sentence in English."
The video, featuring Kaur's mom, is a passionate understanding and appreciation for her parents' struggle and fight to provide a good life for their family.
