Daredevil has yet to announce when its next season will be available for streaming, but we do have some news as to who will be appearing in the superhero saga when it returns sometime next year. Jon Bernthal has been cast as Daredevil's Punisher, so expect to see the antihero pop up in season two. Bernthal is best known for playing Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead, and he also had recurring roles on Eastwick and The Class.
The Punisher, for those not up on their Marvel supervillains, is a rogue vigilante who goes mad after his wife and children are killed by the mob. Considering that Daredevil also hates organized criminals in general and Wilson Fisk in particular, might we see these two actually team up and fight their common enemy? Well, maybe not. The Punisher is obsessed with vengeance and will kill anyone who slights him, while Matt Murdock is more into the whole saving-innocents thing.
The Punisher, whose civilian name is Frank Castle, doesn't have any supernatural abilities. Rather, like Batman, he's trained in martial arts and excels at physical combat — he was a highly skilled marine before taking on a life of crime. Along with Castle, we also know that Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role as Claire Temple next season, and there have been rumors that the Marvel characters Elektra and Bullseye (who were both prominently featured in the 2003 Daredevil film) will also be joining the cast.
Previously, the Punisher has been portrayed in films by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson.
