15 YouTube Cover Songs Breathing New Life Into Your Favorite Pop Hits

Sometimes, we daresay, the remakes are even better than the original.

Pop stars get tons of play on YouTube, but the video streaming giant also amps the careers of cover song artists, acapella groups, and acoustic musicians who give fresh spins to hit records. (And sometimes, we daresay, the remakes are even better than the original.)

Check out some of our favorite of these musical acts in the cover songs list below.

1. “Too Good at Goodbyes” by Boyce Avenue

Boyce Avenue is probably listed in the definition of "cover songs," and this rendition of "Too Good at Goodbyes" ranks in the pantheon of Sam Smith cover songs.

2. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Us the Duo

'Tis the season for Christmas cover songs (then again, when isn't the season?), and the melodic twosome Us the Duo has you covered! Their vocals are so pure, they could have done this acapella, though the instrumentals are beautiful, too. Roast some chestnuts over the open fire and listen to them reinvent this yuletide chestnut.

Check it out here.

3. “Shape of You” by Walk Off The Earth

Of the many Ed Sheeran covers online, Walk Off the Earth has one of our favorites with their take on "Shape of You." Just take a listen to those homemade instruments!

Check it out here.

4. “United State of Pop” by DJ Earworm

DJ Earworm may just be the master of mash-ups, releasing a "United State of Pop" medley annually with dozens of the past year's biggest hits. You'll hear perfectly incorporated snippets of Miley Cyrus, Kesha, Pink, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, and so many more.

5. “Beauty and the Beast” by Leroy Sanchez and Lorea Turner

It may be a tale as old as time, but "Beauty and the Beast" has hardly sounded more magical than in this acoustic cover by Leroy Sanchez and Lorea Turner. Of all the Disney cover songs out there, this one in particular would make old Walt proud. (Another contender for cover versions better than the original.)

6. “Evolution of Disney” by Todrick Hall

Speaking of mouse-eared cover songs on YouTube, check out this Disney mash-up by breakout star Todrick Hall. Is there anything this guy can't do? (And if you want an acapella animated tribute, check out Peter Hollens and Whitney Avalon's "Epic Disney Villains Medley.")

7. “1+1” by Leroy Sanchez and Jessica Sanchez

The aforementioned Leroy Sanchez teamed up with American Idol and America's Got Talent alum Jessica Sanchez to tackle this track, and it's one of the best Beyoncé cover songs we've heard. (Plus, it's almost acapella — just ignore the guitar!)

8. “Adele Medley (Live)” by Glenn & Ronan

Adele covers are tricky, and even tricker live — which why this mash-up by Glenn & Ronan is so impressive. (Plus, Adele herself even invited Ronan Scolard and Glenn Murphy up on stage just after this video was uploaded.)

Check it out here.

9. “24K Magic” by Conor Maynard and Alex Aiono

Have you ever heard a Bruno Mars backbeat used in battle? Now you have! Plus, Conor Maynard and Alex Aiono cover the "24K Magic" instrumentals with other cover songs in this upload.

10. “Despacito” by Sam Tsui and Alyson Stoner, and Aula39

Justin Bieber cover songs are a dime a dozen online, but what about the Biebs' other collaborators on "Despacito"? Look no further than this "Despacito" cover uploaded by Kurt Hugo Schneider, in which YouTube stars Sam Tsui and Alyson Stoner nail Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi's Spanish lyrics … to those of us with monolingual ears, at least.

OK, we take it back. Look a little bit further than that video, and you'll see Aula39's "Despacito" acapella cover. Try not to clap along as you check it out here!

11. “Closer” by Kina Grannis

A ton of people have done Chainsmokers cover songs, but check out this version of "Closer" by Kina Grannis, and you might recognize a familiar face from Glee.

Check it out here.

12. “Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato

Who better to perform some acoustic Demi Lovato covers than Demi herself? The pop star went back to basics for this BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge rendition of her hit "Sorry Not Sorry." (The Live Lounge is famous for its cover songs, too — Demi also covered Sam Smith, for example.)

Check it out here.

13. “Look What You Made Me Do” by Postmodern Jukebox

Remakes of old songs are all the rage, but what about old-timey remakes of new songs? Enter Postmodern Jukebox, whose jazzy renditions of current hits will take you decades back in time. How about this James Bond-style Taylor Swift cover

14. “Evolution of Michael Jackson” by Pentatonix

Acapella supergroup Pentatonix is just a foursome now, but back when they were still a party of five, they blessed us with this mash-up of songs from the King of Pop. Check out the video below, and then check out the spin-off act Superfruit.

15. “1-800-273-8255” by Jeremy Green and Tim Reynolds

This duo did a stirring string version of Logic's suicide awareness anthem. The more exposure to that issue, the better, we say — especially with this degree of musical skill.

Check it out here.
