Couple Leaves Waitress A $400 Tip And Offers To Pay Off Her Student Loans

“I still don’t feel like it’s real. I want to run around in the streets.”

Incredible acts of generosity can happen when you least expect it, and one waitress recently experienced that firsthand.

Cayla Chandara is a server at Noi Thai Cuisine in Waikiki, Hawaii. During one of her shifts, she waited on a couple visiting from Australia, and they hit it off. As she spent time talking with them, she learned more about them and shared some information about herself.

"They asked me where I was from, and I told them I moved here for school, but I was kind of in a little bit of debt, and I couldn't go back to school, because I couldn't afford it and the cost of living here," Chandara told KHON2 News

The couple's tab was $200, which they paid and left. But when Chandara went to pick it up, she was surprised to see the number written on the tip line. They left her a $400 tip — twice the amount they paid for their meal.

Chandara wanted to personally thank the couple for their kindness, so she visited the hotel they said they were staying at and left them flowers and a thank you note.

The following day, the couple returned to the restaurant and gave Chandara an even more generous offer. They told her they would love to help her pay off her student loan debt which is currently more than $10,000.

"I was like, 'No way, you don't have to do that for me. I just wanted to say thank you,' I still don't feel like it's real. I want to run around in the streets," Chandara told KHON2 News. "I want to make them proud. I will take this opportunity with an open heart and be a better person that I can be every day."

We don't all have the means to leave extraordinary tips or pay off people's debts, but we can all take an extra moment to get to know those around us. We may just discover ways we can help to better their lives at no cost to our own and encourage them to pay it forward in the process.
