17 Veterans Confess Why They Chose To Join The Armed Forces

Thank you all for your service.

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand once said, "While we can never truly repay the debt we owe our heroes, the least we should do for our brave veterans is to ensure that the government takes a proactive approach to delivering the services and benefits they have earned, so they can access the care they need and so richly deserve."

That debt began the moment they made the monumental decision to sign up and serve. When they decided to put aside their needs in favor of their country's needs and don a military uniform for the first time. For that, they deserve our support and our gratitude.

There are over one million active duty soldiers, and all of them signed up to serve their country for different reasons. Thankfully, Whisper can give us insight into their decision-making process. Seventeen veterans shared why they decided to enlist on the confessions app. For our parts, we're just grateful they did.
