Clueless is so much more than just a movie. The 1995 film spawned an entire subculture, including it's own special slang ("As if!"), uniform (plaid miniskirts and tube socks) and icons (Alicia Silverstone, we bow down). Clueless has stood the test of time and it has earned its place in the pantheon of best high school movies ever made. So, of course, fans are still yearning for new material or news about the movie, and its cast and crew, two decades after it was released. Well, today's our lucky day. Clueless' writer and director, Amy Heckerling, confirmed that a Clueless musical based on her famous film is officially underway. This announcement has us totally buggin'.
Heckerling herself wrote the script for the as-yet-untitled Clueless musical. The show won't contain any original songs, but is rather what those in the industry call a "jukebox musical," meaning it will incorporate previously written songs from the era in which Clueless takes place — think "Rollin' with the Homies" for the opening number. Director Kristin Hanggi, who helmed the musical Rock of Ages from 2009 through 2015, is already attached to the project.
Now all that's left is to cast this thing and get it to Broadway! Have a good idea for who should play Cher, Dion, Elton and the rest? Let us know in the comments!
