When making New Year's resolutions,  it's often best to break down your larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps. If, for example, you have a goal to practice a more sustainable lifestyle, you can start small by simply being more conscious of the makeup products you buy.

For New Year's Eve, try wearing clean beauty products as they will not only help your skin glow without the use of harmful chemicals, but they will be better for the environment as they are produced sustainably.

When shopping for these sorts of products, it's important to do your research. You can reach out to brands to find out about their ingredients, find people who've committed themselves to this particular lifestyle and learn from their choices, or look to clean beauty stores that carry an array of products.

At Credo, a clean beauty shop, for example, all products pass a screening process to ensure that the ingredients are safe, cruelty-free, "and committed to ethical sourcing and sustainable production." Their products "are either natural (formulated using plants), or made with a combination of safe/non-toxic synthetic ingredients combined with plants."

That said, we've gone ahead and selected nine clean beauty products you can wear on New Year's Eve to kick your year off right. Whether it's a shimmering eyeshadow or a gorgeous lipstick, use these products to complete your holiday look and carry them with you all year round.

1. Moisturizer

Keep your skin hydrated with this Tata Harper Reparative Moisturizer. Use it after washing your face and before makeup; it's free from toxins, fillers, artificial colors, artificial fragrances, synthetic chemicals, GMOs, and parabens.

Plus, "the majority of our packaging is made of glass, and this is a decision we at Tata Harper Skincare conscientiously make," it says on Tata Harper's website. "Glass is highly recyclable and can be reused over and over ... What little plastic we do use is necessary for the function of the packaging and is as eco-friendly as possible." So recycle those bottles, please!

2. Eye cream

Juara's Miracle Tea Complete Eye Cream is 100 percent vegetarian and good for all skin types.

"Formulated with age-delaying fermented sweet black tea, also known in Indonesia as 'miracle tea' or 'kombucha,' this rejuvenating eye crème leaves your under eye area revitalized and pampered," it says on Credo's website. "Perfect for use under concealer yet potent enough to be an effective night-time treatment, this organic face cream also contains five flavor berry, dark-circle eliminating golden chamomile, nourishing illipe butter, and our unique Radiance Complex."

3. Primer

Alima Pure's Smooth + Prime liquid primer is an awesome vegan option you can use to replace your regular primers. It's never tested on animals.

As a brand, "Alima Pure cosmetics are crafted from minimal ingredients for maximum impact," it says on their website. "Designed for the modern, confident woman, our cosmetics are luxurious, high-performance, and made from only the purest natural ingredients. We seek to redefine makeup as an empowering tool of self-expression through our diverse range of foundation shades and inspiring colors."

4. Foundation

Nu Evolution's Complete Coverage Foundation includes no parabens, no sulfites/sulfates, no artificial dyes or fragrances, no petroleum, no mineral oil, and it's free of other harmful products you wouldn't want on your skin. It's gluten-free and organic, too.

The brand's co-founders started the brand with the knowledge that "more than 60 percent of what you apply to your skin is directly absorbed into your bloodstream," it says on Nu Evolution's website. So, "they set out on a quest to find alternatives to the propylene glycol (also known as antifreeze!), phthalates, parabens, sulfates and other harmful ingredients used in most mainstream beauty products. As busy women who lead hectic lives, they were also inspired to find products that were not only effective but reflective of their taste and personal style."

Now with their own products, "what you see is what you get. Under no circumstances are they willing to sacrifice their health or yours for the sake of profits. They want women of all shades to be able to use the quality, stylish products they demand without compromising their well-being. And, that's real beauty."
