There are many, many, many ways to get distracted from any given task, and when you work a desk job, a fair portion of them are right at your fingertips. That's why there's a slew of productivity apps, blockers, and the like to help keep you focused on the work you're supposed to be doing. Sometimes it's best to keep these things simple, though, and a new Chrome extension lovingly named Go Fucking Work does just that.
When you install the extension, it prompts you to input sites that constantly suck away your attention. Afterwards, when you try to visit those sites, your browser yells at you — usually with an insult framed around good old "fuck."
Of course, if you need to temporarily disable the app, you can, but that would pretty much defeat the point. For his part, creator Alex Lam is surprised Go Fucking Work has gotten such a large and overall positive response. He wrote as much on Product Hunt:
"Fuck. Was not expecting this to blow up!
I was feeling unproductive, so instead of working, I made a website blocker to shout expletives at me. There are tons of blockers out there but none that shouted at me for wasting time.
Hopefully my procrastinating helps you be more productive. Love all the feedback — please keep it coming!"
