‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Is Here With A Pep Talk Everyone Should Listen To

"If you can't love who you are now, you can't get to the place you want to be.”

Chrissy Metz is currently taking the entertainment world by storm — and spreading positivity everywhere she goes in the form of body confidence, of self-esteem, and of hope.

The 36-year-old is one of the stars of NBC's This Is Us — an ensemble family drama that has dominated this TV year and has already been picked up for two more seasons — and is openly embracing the label of plus-size woman. Metz said being asked to be sexy for a Harper's Bazaar shoot was confusing at first but now thinks that "this is incredible — it's validation."

Metz plays Kate Pearson — a woman who struggles with things such as her weight and finding her place in the world — on This Is Us, something she takes very seriously.

"I'm on this journey to inspire people, and to encourage them," Metz told the magazine. "We are all deserving of true happiness, so it's much more than just acting. It's like, forget you're on this amazing television show, you're changing lives and opening discussion."

As evidence of that, Metz described one encounter with a fan's mother in a public restroom. The woman told Metz she'd never understood her daughter and her weight issues until watching the show. Both of the women then got teary eyed and Metz calls the moment "beautiful."

"If you can't love who you are now, you can't get to the place you want to be," Metz added. "It's a daily lesson for all of us. I'm paving the way for other women and men who know they're destined for greatness but they don't believe it yet."

These barriers that Metz is breaking — whether on TV shows or on the red carpet — is her way of letting everyone out there in the world know that they too can succeed in life no matter what.

Not only that, but Metz is fighting for visibility for those beyond just body image: "There's more room for all of us now — no matter our sexuality, race, body size, gender, or whatever else."
