Chelsea Clinton’s Kids Book ‘She Persisted’ Is Sure To Become Required Reading

Page upon page of inspiring women.

Leave it to Chelsea Clinton to deliver some of the best news of Women's History Month thus far. The former first daughter announced today that she's writing an illustrated children's book titled She Persisted that will highlight history-making ladies, her mom included.

With this book, the offspring of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be highlighting women from throughout American history who made an impact in some major way. Alexandra Boiger is responsible for the work's adorable illustrations.

"I wrote this book for everyone who's ever wanted to speak up but has been told to quiet down, for everyone who's ever been made to feel less than," Clinton said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, connecting the book's title to when Senate Republicans tried to silence Elizabeth Warren on the floor and it ultimately backfired.

The other women who overcame odds to achieve their dreams featured in She Persisted — in addition to Clinton's mother, who was the first-ever female presidential nominee and who won the popular vote in 2016 — include: Nellie Bly, Ruby Bridges, Claudette Colvin, Florence Griffith Joyner, Helen Keller, Clara Lemlich, Sally Ride, Margaret Chase Smith, Sonia Sotomayor, Maria Tallchief, Harriet Tubman, and Oprah Winfrey.

"The 13 women in She Persisted all overcame adversity to help shape our country — sometimes through speaking out, sometimes by staying seated, sometimes by captivating an audience," Clinton added. "With this book, I want to send a message to young readers around the country — and the world — that persistence is power."

She Persisted is available beginning May 30.
