Bus Driver Slams Brakes On Bus, Jumps Out To Save Woman About To Jump Off A Bridge

He saved her life.

There are everyday heroes among us and a Chinese bus driver is just one of many who proves that.

According to Yahoo9, Bian Pengfei was driving his bus across the bridge over the Yangtze River this Sunday when he spotted a woman in a pink dress climb over the railing. Without thinking twice, he stopped the bus and ran out of the front doors and grabbed her.

He and another man brought her to the bus as she tried to fight them, and eventually got her on and to safety. The Independent reports that the woman was taken to the end of the line then brought to a police station. She is reportedly in counseling.

According to International Women's Day (and despite the Chinese president's claim to want to ease the tension with women's rights activists), women in China are more likely than men to commit suicide. While mental health plays a large role in that in Western countries such as the U.S., in China, it may have more to do with societal pressures. Per the site:

Economically, rural women are still not quite independent and do not have economic power. Family violence is also a cause in many cases.

We don't know what this woman is dealing with, but we're glad this bus driver was able to stop it.
