Soldiers In Afghanistan Help Widow Of Fallen 'Brother' With A Gender Reveal

"We are happy to welcome the new member of our company."

Newlywed Brittany Harris found out she was expecting her first child with husband Chris Harris in July 2017. She shared the news with him while he was deployed in Afghanistan as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Tragically, the 25-year-old was killed less than a week later on August 2, 2017 due to an explosion from an improved explosive device (IED).

His widow said that Harris thought of the members of his unit, the 2nd Battalion, 504th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82 Airborne Division, not just as fellow soldiers, but as brothers, so she wanted to get them involved in the baby's gender reveal.

She asked the unit if they would like to be the first to know the baby's gender. Then she shipped confetti poppers over to them in Afghanistan for the big reveal.

On October 5, Harris shared a video on Facebook of the 82nd Airborne Division's gender reveal. The men in the video say that they don't know what the gender of Harris's baby is, but they're going to find out. The unit then stands in front of a U.S. flag to release the confetti popper.

When the popper emits pink confetti, everyone cheers and celebrates.

WSBTV reported that one of the servicemen, Joel Crunk, posted, "Chris Harris laid down his life for our country. His newlywed wife was expecting their first child. The reveal is in Afghanistan with the men who fought by his side. We are happy to welcome the new member of our company."

The baby is due in March 2018 and Harris plans to name her daughter Christian Michelle Harris in honor of her husband's full name, Christopher Michael Harris.

When she saw the footage, Harris said she couldn't hold back the tears. "I probably watched it 100 times myself," she revealed. "I was crying but smiling because their reaction was so wonderful."
