13 Bosses Reveal What It Feels Like To Fire Someone

"I had to lay-off two people today. One is my cousin."

Holding a managerial role comes with a responsibility to fire employees when they're not meeting expectations, or lay people off to cut expenses. That can be a heavy burden to bear. It means putting someone you worked with in a position where they may not be able to afford their lifestyles, bills, or even meals.

We often learn about that struggle from the former employee, but rarely get a glimpse at the other side of the story. What does it feel like to be the one doing the firing?

Thanks to the Whisper app, an online platform that allows users to post confessions anonymously, we now have an idea of how hard can be. Several bosses confessed their thoughts and feelings surrounding the termination of someone's employment.

Getting fired absolutely sucks, but very often it's the result of the employee and the position not being the right fit. It's a learning experience, and it's comforting to know that it can be awful for the employer to see you go.
