Why Beyoncé's Merch Model Is The Perfect Choice To Inspire Young Women

“OK LADIES now let's get in FORMATION!”

Beyoncé has a new album on the way, and with it comes new merchandise. The songstress has recruited a diverse group of models to show off her merchandise on her website, including model Jillian Mercado, who has muscular dystrophy.

"OK LADIES now let's get in FORMATION!," Mercado wrote on Instagram. "So BEYond excited to finally announce that I'm on the official @beyonce website!!! A special shout out to Queen Bee herself and the amazing team behind it."

Her modeling agency, IMG Models, also shared Mercado's picture showing off Beyoncé's swag.

Mercado was born with muscular dystrophy, which causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. Some people with muscular dystrophy lose the ability to walk.

Bullied in school for her condition, Mercado grew up to have a deep interest in fashion. The New York resident graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and later became a fashion blogger before finding work as a model. She previously modeled in campaigns for Nordstrom and for Diesel.

Mercado proudly embraces her status as a body positive role model for young women.

"I goddamn love my body, a lot," she told Vivala on YouTube. "I love it so much I eat very healthy now or I try to eat very healthy. I t go to the gym like twice a week. I wear whatever I want to wear. I am obsessed with makeup. I am living a very, very, very, very awesome life now and I am very happy with everything that's happening because I worked so hard to get where I am."
