In November of last year, 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders sat down with Michael Render, aka Killer Mike, to candidly discuss economic freedom, and their political and social beliefs. The result of that was an unlikely friendship, and Killer Mike has been using his status as a talented rapper and pop culture icon to promote the Sanders campaign ever since.
Now Sanders has returned the favor by lending his instantly recognizable face and voice to Mike's biggest current project, Run the Jewels. Before he and partner El-P took the stage at Coachella over the weekend, the senator introduced them on video.
"I thought the least I could do for both of you is help you out by bringing a few young people together," said the 74-year-old senator from Brooklyn.
