13 People Share What It's Like To Be Raised By Their Grandparents Instead Of Their Parents

"The thought of losing either of them scares me to death."

About seven million grandparents in the United States live with at least one grandchild, according to a 2012 consensus. When people live and spend time with their grandparents every single day, the role of the grandparent may change. Some are actually raised by their grandparents instead of their parents.

Speaking to that experience, people who had grandparents who acted as their parents anonymously took to the Whisper app to reveal what their life growing up was like. Each confession is different, but they all show just how appreciative they are to have had their grandparents take care of them. Plus, they prove all different kinds of loving families and relationships deserve celebration and recognition.
