People Are Obsessed With 'Moonlight' Director Barry Jenkins Live Tweeting This Classic Rom-Com

"I can't actually hear the movie."

Have you ever wanted to witness an Oscar-winning filmmaker share his live thoughts on one of the most beloved romantic comedies of the 1990s, as drunkenly viewed on a plane with no sound? Your answer may be no, but once you read director Barry Jenkins' recent Twitter thread about Notting Hill, you'll probably change your tune.

According to the Huffington Post, the Moonlight director was on a Delta flight this Wednesday when he noticed the woman next to him was watching the 1999 Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant rom-com. Although he couldn't hear any of the dialogue, Jenkins had some pretty enthusiastic (and tipsy) reactions to the film, and Twitter was quickly obsessed.

Jenkins had plenty to say about Julia Roberts' beauty, and wondered if Grant's character had the "English cat game" to win her heart. He was also understandably confused by a few plot points, due to the lack of sound and "our friend Woodford Reserve."

He also confirmed that watching a movie sex scene over a stranger's shoulder is "CRAZY AWKWARD," and shared his thoughts on the movie from a filmmaker's perspective, commenting on the subtle use of makeup to reveal Roberts' character, and writing, "I love that I get to do this for a living."

When it was over, it sounds like Jenkins' neighbor was starting The Proposal. We're not the only ones disappointed that he didn't live tweet that one as well.

"I hope this isn't embarsssing [sic] tomorrow," Jenkins wrote.

The director's thread captured the attention of plenty of Twitter users, including Mindy Kaling, who read it while up late feeding her new baby. "The man has give us creative treasures in many forms," she wrote.

Other users even suggested Jenkins' plane commentary should be a weekly series, and called it "the most delightful, hilarious mini film school."

You can read Jenkins' entire thread on Twitter. We certainly wouldn't complain if he did this again on his next flight.
