In Back to the Future Part II, Marty and Doc traveled to the futuristic date of October 21, 2015. While 2015 is a little bit different than what was imagined in the movie (we're still waiting on those flying cars), people are nonetheless excited that October 21 is Back to the Future Day. Several companies are joining the fun by releasing special projects related to the film.
Here are 11 hilarious and amazing ways that the world is celebrating Back to the Future Day:
1. Universal released a fake trailer for "Jaws 19."
Jaws 19 played as a holofilm during Back to the Future Part II (basically the fake shark that almost ate Marty), so a fictional trailer for this movie seems just right.
2. Universal also made their own hoverboard commercial.
Many have tried to create their own 'real' hoverboard like the one in the movie. (Some have actually come close.) But for now, Universal has made a hoverboard commercial that is worth watching.
3. Toyota made video with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
Back to the Future Part II featured a brief clip of a Toyota truck. Thus, it made perfect sense for Toyota to release a video with the film's two main characters discussing their memories of the movie.
4. Pepsi has a special edition bottle.
In honor of the soda Marty drinks on his voyage to the future, Pepsi has released a special edition Pepsi, dubbed Pepsi Perfect, that looks just like the bottle in the film. Price? $20.15 of course.
5. Nike power laces are coming.
The Nikes with automatic laces that light up might be released in 2015.
6. Irish students built an all-electric DeLorean.
Queen's University Belfast is unveiling an all-electric DeLorean — the first of its kind — on October 21.
7. Conan and Elijah Wood flossed some fashion from the movie
Conan and recent guest Elijah Wood donned the hilarious hats worn by the kids in the movie.
8. Screenings of the movie on Back to The Future Day.
There are screenings of Back to the Future Part II in multiple cities on October 21, 2015 at 4:29 p.m. (the exact minute when Doc and Marty arrived in 2015).
9. Symphony concerts of "Back to the Future" this week.
Even classical music is getting on the Back to the Future bandwagon. Several cities are hosting screenings of the original film combined with a live orchestra playing the film's score.
10. Ford is offering a flux capacitor.
If you are getting a 2016 Ford Focus, then on October 21, you have the option of adding a Flux Capacitor to your car. As we all know, the Flux Capacitor is the device that makes time travel possible in the Back to the Future universe. In real life, your mileage may vary.
11. Free DeLorean rides from Lyft.
In New York City on October 21st from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lyft is offering free rides in a vintage DeLorean (like in the movie!) in their app under a button called "Request McFly."
Happy Back to the Future Day!
