Monterey Bay Aquarium Welcomes Baby Otter

The level of cuteness in the bay is at all-time record levels.

Visitors to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California got a wonderful surprise this weekend when they witnessed an otter tending to her newborn pup in the aquarium's Great Tide Pool.

According to SFist, the mother otter swam into the tide pool sometime over the weekend before giving birth to the pup on Sunday morning.

The mother spent the day fluffing the pup's fur to aid in buoyancy.

"She wants to make sure it's got lots of air in that fur," aquarium trainer Dan Albro explained to KSBW. "The baby is going to have to float on its own in the ocean and she wants to make sure that's happening,"
