If you're a fan of Ashton Kutcher, you might know that he's passionate about creating positive change in the world. Recently, the actor and investor delivered an emotional testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the issue of ending modern slavery. He's invested in over 100 companies that he hopes will make a difference in people's day-to-day lives. And, as co-founder of A Plus, Kutcher is known around here for giving some of the best motivational speeches our team has heard.
Because we know powerful words can lead to positive change, we thought we'd share some inspirational quotes from his interview on The Chicken Soup for the Soul Podcast's most recent episode. During his discussion with host Amy Newmark, he touched on success, failure, and the effect of just saying yes.
"The worst thing that can happen is you fail. The minute you start to become comfortable with failure, you actually open up the opportunity to do anything you want," Kutcher said.
As comforting as avoiding failure may feel, it won't ever compare to taking a risk and achieving success.
"I work with entrepreneurs every day," he continued. "I have like 120 investments in technology companies. These are all people that are taking on entire industries with new ideas. You can always find a reason not to do something. It's much harder to inspire yourself to overcome all the reasons not to do something and give it a shot."
And — importantly — don't let your youth or lack of experience hold you back from dreaming big.
"The crazy thing is that the reason I think all of these great new companies are coming from really young people is they have this sort of wonderful mix of naiveté and ambition that allow them to take on things that other people who maybe are wiser in some regards wouldn't even dare to take on. But that little bit of naiveté allows them to become extraordinarily risk adverse and just go for it. Often times, challenges and concepts people feel to be static is where ambition comes from."
If you've been looking for a sign to take a risk on an ambitious project, let this be it.
