Upon first glance, it looks like German artist 1010's murals are vibrant transports into another dimension.
Seriously, how can this be a FLAT painting??
According to 1010's Facebook, he debuted a solo show, "Limbus" at the Hashimoto Contemporary Gallery in San Francisco in February.
In an interview with the gallery, 1010 told assistant director Megan Cerminaro:
The name was given to me by a hamburg-based photographer when I first started making pasteups around 10 years ago. I was working with minimal characters made out of old newspapers that I pasted around the city... the only thing I did was marking the characters with a 1 or a 0, just to make a connection between their behavior, the letters and words that were used in the newspaper and binary code.
In the interview, 1010 also explains the trick to his portal-like art is "painting a shadow."
