The viral Facebook photo of a father sleeping under his son's crib in a hospital is tugging hard at the Internet's heartstrings.
After working all night in the graveyard shift on Tuesday, Andre Palmer went to York Hospital Pediatrics to visit his 20-month-old son, Andre Jesse (A.J.), who was being treated for an asthma attack. His wife, Amy, was asleep in the only chair in the small room.
Instead of waking her, Andre reportedly went under his son's crib and slept there. When Amy woke up, to her surprise, she noticed her husband sleeping on the floor.
"I thought to myself after working all night he didn't have to come to the hospital," Amy told Houston-based television Station KTRK-TV. "He could have went home to sleep."
She snapped a photo of her husband's act and posted it to Facebook. As of Thursday, the photo received over 3,600 likes.
"He does everything he can for our family," she told ABC News about her husband. "You just take it for granted, and then something like this happens and you see how much it touches so many people."
Their son has been discharged from the hospital and the family is now back home. Amy is still amazed that her Facebook photo is having such a profound impact on people.
"I am so overwhelmed with so much emotion right now," Amy wrote on Facebook. "I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who reached out to us whether by sharing the story, commenting, or sending messages. I appreciate all of the prayers and thoughts. I took the picture because I thought what a selfless thing for my husband to do. He could have went home after work, he could have asked me to get up. I would have never imagined that it would have touched so many people."
