Amber Rose has endured plenty of pushback for being a woman who doesn't shy away from owning her sexuality. From wearing a literally statement-making dress to speaking out against slut-shaming, Rose has been a vocal advocate for women's right to their sexuality. And she intends to teach her son, 3-year-old Sebastian Taylor, to do the same.
Rose, who led the SlutWalk campaign in Los Angeles last year, told PEOPLE in an interview that she was "raising him to be a feminist" because there's just too many double standards when it comes to the treatment of women.
For Rose herself, it took being personally victimized by others to realize that something was wrong with the way society addresses women's sexuality. Her relationships with Kanye West and later Wiz Khalifa — who is Sebastian's father — left Rose the victim of some of the most publicly vicious slut-shaming. Yet the model, entrepreneur, author and activist has never wavered in pushing back.
"I never really thought about feminism, it wasn't even a thought until I started noticing things that weren't quite right," she told Complex. "I would post a picture of me and my son and the people will go in and say, 'Does your son know his mother is a whore?'"
As for Sebastian, Rose wants to make sure he becomes the kind of person who speaks up when confronted with injustices.
"When my son goes to school and his friend calls a girl a hoe, I want him to be the first person to say, 'Man, that's not cool. You don't talk to women like that,'" Rose told PEOPLE. "That's very important to me."
