In August of 2012, makeup artist and photographer Amanda Chapman and her family received heartbreaking news. Her husband Greg was diagnosed with lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the immune system.
To keep Greg and their two kids' spirits up, Chapman decided to start "31 Days of Halloween," a project where she would transform herself into characters she loved for every day in October. Her looks were inspired by books and movies that she enjoyed.
This gave her family something fun to look forward to each day.
Chapman is self-taught makeup artist, which may come as a surprise because her looks are totally flawless. She actually learned most of her skills the way many of us do: from watching tons of YouTube tutorials.
"31 Days of Halloween" is a project Chapman has kept up with every October since Greg's diagnosis, but this year is particulary special. Greg is currently recovering from both chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. "This year it is more of a celebration because he's come through this with flying colors," Chapman told Brit + Co. "This guy is my hero."
