We Teared Up Watching This Holiday Ad, But Also Felt Empowered To Help

Reaching out can make a big difference.

Alzheimer's disease — a type of dementia that affects more than 5 million people in the United State — manifests itself by causing problems with memory, thinking, and behavior, according to the Alzheimer's Association. As the organization puts it, "symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks."

It's that message that powers a holiday-themed advertisement from the Alzheimer's Research UK organization. In it, a young girl curious about who Santa Claus is discovers that as Kris Kringle has aged, he's become more forgetful and lonely — something many with seniors in their family suffering from the disease are all too familiar with.

But the girl is determined to help and the organization is steadfast in its goal to get others to do the same, in the process bringing about the spirit of Christmas.

Watch the touching video above to see what happens and learn more about Alzheimer's disease.
