We were already fans of Alessia Cara for her empowering song "Scars to Your Beautiful," so we're thrilled to see her performing a track from the upcoming Disney animated film Moana. The song, titled "How Far I'll Go," was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who co-wrote the movie's soundtrack with Opetaia Foa'i and Mark Mancina. The official video was just released, and it's getting us even more excited than we already were to meet Disney's newest princess.
The video only features one brief clip of Moana herself, but the spirit of her character comes alive through the song's lyrics, as well as the beautiful beach where Cara performs it. Singing from Moana's point of view, she describes her desire to leave her island and see what's out there. "If the wind and my sail on the sea stays behind me / One day I'll know how far I'll go," she sings.
Moana is Disney's first Polynesian princess. She's voiced by breakout star Auli'i Cravalho. The demigod Maui, who accompanies Moana on her journey across the Pacific, is voiced by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. If you're looking forward to the movie as much as we are, make sure to mark your calendar for November 23.
