After Losing More Than A Half Of His Body Weight, This Young Man Has A Powerful Message About Body Postivity

"I'm so scared there's going to be a lot of negativity..."

Meet Matt Diaz...

... a 22-year-old who lost 275 pounds during the last 6 years.

As Diaz explains in the video he posted on his Tumblr account, at the age of 16 he reached his heaviest weight of 497 pounds (225 kilos). That was when Diaz decided to undergo lap-band surgery to help him control his weight, Upworthy reports.

"I'm a big advocate for body positivity," Diaz says in the video. "But I've never shown what my excess skin really looks like. And I think it's important that I do."

"All of this is just an excess skin from the weight-loss. And I work out. And I work really hard. And there's nothing I can do about it."

"I'm so scared there's going to be a lot of negativity..."

"... and a lot of judgment."

"But I can't preach body positivity and hide who I am."

"I think it's important that I'm not ashamed about who I am..."

"... because I worked really hard to get here."

Whoa. This does take some serious guts. And we couldn't be more inspired.

As Diaz explains his Go Fund Me page, he is now raising money excess skin removal surgery:

Now, 6 years later, I need your help.

This is only an estimation, but based on what I'm seeing online I'm estimating I'll need around 20,000 dollars in order to get the chest, tummy and arm work that will go into fixing my excess skin. I plan on getting a consultation soon, so this is subject to change, but this is what I'm estimating for right now.
