9 Striking Photos That Show Just How Sucked Into Our Smartphones We Can Be

Eye-opening.

As you walk down the street, you check your phone for text messages, emails, and notifications from your favorite social media sites. When you visit a new place, you pull out your phone to take selfies or pictures of your surroundings. Your phone, often just a few inches from your face, sucks you into its capabilities.

That concept is the subject of 20-year-old French photographer Antoine Geiger's latest photo series titled SUR-FAKE.  His photos show people's faces literally being sucked into their devices so that they're totally unrecognizable.

Our phones have basically become an extension of ourselves. "It's everywhere. In your pocket, your car, your apartment, your street," Geiger writes in a statement about his work. "It is your best fellow, you give him all your friends, your good feelings and your holiday pictures."

We've seen quite a few artworks that explore how smartphones affect how we experience the real world, but this work shows how it can affect our identity.
