There's nothing quite like two parents in love — or quite as lucky as the kid that gets to witness them going about their days, still totally head over heels years after they first fell for each other. When your parents are super in love, it makes you want the same kind of experience from future partners. You just can't help but have high standards.
Here's a look at the moments parents share that make us swoon.
1. When they flirt with each other in public.
Watching parents flirt is the funniest and sweetest thing in the world. You get to see how they were before you were born and it's pretty freaking awesome.
2. When they wear matching Halloween costumes.
When your parents dress in matching outfits for Halloween, that's how you know it's true love. Bacon and eggs = BAE, obviously.
3. When they hold hands in public.
Seeing your parents hold hands in public is just about the sweetest thing in the world. When your dad grabs your mom's hand (and vice versa), you really feel how committed he is to her all these years down the road.
4. When they talk about how long they've been married.
When totally-still-in-their-honeymoon-phase parents talk about marriage, there's never an "ugh, yup I'm married" kind of vibe. They're still excited about it, and still completely head over heels. When your parents talk about how long they've been together, it makes you feel happy and at ease.
5. When they buy each other things for no reason other than love.
It's such a wonderful thing to see your parents expressing love to one another. Whether it's flowers, candy, chocolate, or something practical that they actually need, any expression of love is amazing. This gives you seriously high expectations for your future partner but that's totally okay.
6. When they sit on the same side of the booth at a restaurant.
Some people find couples sitting on the same side of the booth unnerving, but it's actually really adorable. It's also 10 times as adorable when your parents do it. #Goals.
7. When they have date nights.
When your parents go out without you, it's almost a little weird at first. Like, "Excuse me, but why am I not going with you?"
As we get older, we realize that our parents were without us for a decent amount of time, and that it's actually really sweet when they go out to dinner and a movie just to keep the romance alive. D'aww.
8. When they profess their love to each other at the end of a phone call.
Nothing is more perfect than hearing the "I love you" at the end of a simple phone call. When you hear your parents do it, it's the most reassuring thing in the world.
In a society where statistically half of all marriages end, there is no better feeling than knowing love still exists. Our parents prove to us that love is possible, and that is the best lesson ever.
